This week we are checking out Heber Springs in Arkansas! Grab some coffee and get some travel inspiration!
Heber Springs is home to Greers Ferry Lake and The Little Red River. Greers Ferry Lake is no small lake. It is about 40,000 acres which makes it perfect for all types of water activities! If you can’t tell from some of my other posts, anything that has to do with water excites me!
What is there to do in Heber Springs?
Boating
As I mentioned above, Greers Ferry Lake is about 40,000 acres! This means you’ll definitely be able to get some good boating done on this lake! People love to water ski, tube, wakeboard, jet ski, and even scuba dive in this lake. There are eight marinas located on this lake that can provide rentals for all your boating needs! You can even rent a houseboat!
It is said that Greer Ferry Lake has deep crystal clear waters! Since I have never been here (yet!), I don’t know for sure, but crystal clear water always intrigues me, probably because most lakes I go to are not clear!
Hiking
Not only does Heber Springs have a great body of water, but it also has some really awesome hiking trails. The hiking here is actually what drew me in at first! There are quite a few hiking trails and some of them are even award winning nature trails. The trail that most interested me was Collins Creek. This hike features a cascading waterfall! The majority of the hikes in Heber Springs actually have some sort of water source or waterfall associated with it. You really can’t go wrong with any of the hikes!
Fishing
I absolutely love to fish and this place has some great fishing! Record size fish are continuously caught out of this lake and the Arkansas Game & Fish Commission have packed this lake full of every game fish native to Arkansas. This lake also has some hybrid fish. It is not uncommon for 15 – 18 pound walleye to be caught during spawning season. The best places to catch walleye are in the Middle Fork, South Fork, and the Devil’s Fork of the Little Red River.
Lodging
There is a ton of camping in Heber Springs! There are over a thousand campsites to choose from. if camping is not your thing, you can always reserve a cabin or stay at a hotel resort.
Along with all the awesome things above, there is always they typical shops, restaurants, and historical significance of this town to check out. John F. Kennedy has some pretty big ties to this town! Make sure to check out the Willian Carl Visitor Center!
Let me know if you have been to Heber Springs, AK and what your favorite part is!
