There is a lot of chaos going on in the world right now. A lot of people are in panic mode over the Corona Virus and how it is being handled. For the most part, people have been asked to stay home and practice social distancing.

Social distancing can be incredibly hard for some people. New routines can be incredibly hard for some people. Being asked to only leave the house for emergencies or essential items can spread panic even when there isn’t any. I know I have been struggling with balancing all the things. My work has allowed us to work from home but that is a serious balancing act with the kiddos.

I am so grateful for so many things. I am grateful for more time with my kiddos. I am grateful for the wealth of knowledge we have in this day and age. I am grateful for social communication that we have. All these things are so great, but they can also be so overwhelming! I found myself checking social media and hearing all the panic. Watching all the press conferences and worrying even more.

Last Saturday, I had enough. I was feeling the stress build so I decided to do a detox day. Whenever I get overwhelmed I like to take a bath. So I decided a detox bath would be perfect and then I decided to do all the detox things and just make a day out of it!

Here is how my day went:

Put My Phone Away

People have every right to their opinions and to post on their social media and I have every right to tell myself that it’s time to put the phone away because it is affecting my mental health. I think in times like these people feel comfort in posting all the things online and unfortunately a lot of those things tend to be negative. That’s why I decided to put my phone away and to just stop looking at stuff for a while. I didn’t put my phone away for the entire day, but for most of it I did. I didn’t take it out until the evening.

Spent Time Alone

I started my day with some time alone. My kids have been going stir crazy and getting on each others nerves. They are loud and they argue. I love having more time with them but I did need a break! My husband watched them for me while I simply spent some time in our bedroom watching a couple shows that I wanted to catch up on. While I was watching tv is when I decided to do all the detox things, so this detox spa day actually started before I knew it was starting! If you don’t have anyone to watch your kiddos maybe just try to be intentional with their nap time or send them to their rooms for some quiet time!

Detox Bath

Baths are absolutely one of my favorite things in the world! I love water and I think it is so therapeutic! I got a cup of tea and then went to start the bath! In this bath I put:

Normally I would also add epsom salts to this bath as well but I was out so I didn’t get to put them in there! I also love to add magnesium flakes to this bath as well but only if I’m doing it right before bed.

Hair Treatment

After I took a bath I turned the shower on to wash my hair. When I wash my hair, I wash it twice. So on the first wash I used a more clarifying shampoo and for the second wash I used a more nourishing shampoo. After that I applied a hair mask to my hair and got out of the shower. After I did my hair mask I hopped back into the shower and washed out the mask, threw on some conditioner and then wrapped it up in a microfiber towel!

I didn’t want to dry it after I washed it so once it came out of the towel, I applied some split end mender and unknot detangler. These help keep my hair strong and prevent breakage. After brushing my hair I applied my air dry cream and just let it air dry.

Detox Masks

One of my favorite face masks is a very strong detox mask and it can actually be used on different parts of the body than the face. Here is how to make the mask:

  • 2T Aztec Clay
  • 2T Apple Cider Vinegar
  • 2-3 Drops of Tea Tree Oil

All you do is mix everything together but do not use any sort of metal. Aztec Clay pulls out metal toxins and if you use metal to mix the ingredients, it could dull the effects of the mask.

The first place I put this is my face. I typically do this face mask every week and I love it! It gets super tight on your face and literally feels like it’s sucking out all the crap! This time I decided to apply it to my armpits and feet! It’s always a good idea to detox your armpits and this is one of the best ways. Even though I have switched to a natural deodorant and there are no chemicals to detox from my armpits, it’s still a nice detox to do to freshen up.

Last, I put the detox mask on the bottom of my feet! I did this and just sat on the edge of the bathtub. It feels weird especially when it starts to tighten, but the feet are an amazing way to pull out toxins! You can also do this by filling up a tub of water, aztec clay, and apple cider vinegar and just soak your feet!

All of these masks stay on for about 10-15 minutes and then I wash them off with warm water. Depending on how thick I put the mask on, depend on how long. Also, this mask does pull pretty tight and sometimes I can’t stand it on my face anymore! Your face will be slightly red after and it is really important to put on some moisturizer!

Lip Scrub

My lips have been so dry lately!! I blame my lack of water intake since I have been away from my desk! So I went online and found a quick lip scrub recipe. I actually made this the day before and had extra left over. All I did was mix together:

I had all these things at home so it made it really easy to make. If you don’t have the vitamin E oil you can use jojoba oil, coconut oil, or really any kind of oil. Also, you can leave out the honey if you don’t have it. This is the first time I have used honey in a lip scrub and I wasn’t overly excited about it.

After using the lip scrub I put some oil on my lips but any kind of chapstick or balm will work as well.

Personal Development

This is the point in my day where both kiddos joined me! Lotus had been hanging out with me since about half way through my bath but Jeffery was napping. We all snuggled into bed and watch a movie together and I did some personal development. I read an amazing personal development book call The Slight Edge by Jeff Olson. I would recommend it to everyone! In the last couple chapters of the book there are some exercises you can do to get laser focused on what you want to work on. I worked on these exercises while the kids watched Brave.

Vitamin D

At this point I was feeling a lot better and this is really when I picked up my phone again. I decided we all needed some fresh air and some vitamin D! It had just snowed so the ground was snowy, slushy, and there were a ton of puddles. The kids had so much fun in the snow and puddles!

After all that, we had dinner as a family, we put the kids to bed, and then Justin and I watched a movie. What started out as a very anxious day turned into a really amazing day and some much needed self-care!

I hope this brought some value and remember, when times get hard, take a step back and take care of yourself!
