Drink More Water

Lifestyle

No one on earth is going to survive without water. it’s a fact of life and there is no getting around it. If you do not consume any water, you will die. Even though mostly everyone knows this fact, a lot of people still have a really hard time consuming enough water. I started drinking around a gallon of water a day when I was pregnant with Jeffery. I honestly don’t know why I did, all I know it that I was thirsty all the time and a gallon seemed like a good number to aim for. Now, I drink around three liters a day.

There are tons and tons of health benefits to drinking water. Some of the big benefits include:

  • Regulates body temp
  • Delivers oxygen throughout the body
  • Lubricates joints
  • Boosts brain function
  • Essential for certain nutrients to reach different parts of body
  • Aids the kidneys
  • Keeps airways clear
  • Helps regulate blood pressure
  • Helps eliminate toxins from your body

And if those aren’t enough for you, here are some vanity reasons to drink water:

  • Aid in weight loss
  • Reduces the appearance of wrinkles
  • Clearer skin
  • Brighter skin

Water clearly does a lot for you, so it’s kind of a big deal that requires a big effort! I mentioned before that I drink around 3 liters of water a day. To do this, I have to be very mindful of my water intake and make sure I am drinking water all day long or I will not get to my goal! When I am at work, I do so well. My cup is right next to me and I have a 75oz jug that I refill it with. It’s pretty easy! What’s not so easy is remembering to drink water when I am home and juggling 15 million things at once. Here are some tips that I try to use when I am struggling to hit my water goals!

Work It Into Your Routine

If you make habits that include water, then you are more likely to remember to drink it. At work it’s super easy because it’s part of my morning routine. I fill up my water jug and know to drink it all before I leave. When I get home, I get a big glass of water and water for the kids. I try to put it in an area where I know I will see it and remember to drink it. Also, I never sit down to eat dinner without a glass of water in front of me! On weekends where my days aren’t as planned and routine like, I do two things (or at least try)! I still have a jug at home that I fill up and I leave it in the fridge. The jug is a way for me to know how much water I should be drinking. When it’s gone, I know my goal has been hit. The second thing I try to do is always have a glass of water in front of me. Whether I am home or out and about.

Add Flavoring

I know a lot of people who complain that water is just too plain and they don’t drink it because it has no flavor to it. Adding some flavor to your water can be a really easy fix for this! There are a lot of flavor packs out there, but just be careful because a lot of them are filled with sugar and artificial dyes. I like to use these packets and I believe they come in other flavors as well but I love grapefruit!

Buy a New Cup Or Water Bottle

Sometimes it can be exciting when you have new things and you want to use them as much as possible! Getting a new cup or a new water bottle might help motivate you to drink more water. There are so many cute tumbler cups on amazon! Check them out here! They even have smart water bottles not that will help track your water intake for you. I have never tried on of these so I’m not sure how well they work.

Drink Water With Every Meal

Make sure every single meal starts with a big glass of water! I don’t care if you still have half a glass of water in your cup, fill it up before you start eating and do not leave the table or your seat until the water is gone. If you are eating three meals a day, you will at least drink three glasses of water! If you go to a restaurant and want to drink anything other than water, ask for a glass of water as well and just drink it first to get it out of the way!

Always Have A Water Bottle

If you always leave the house with a water bottle, you will always have water! So many times when I have been out and about I remembered I needed water or wished I had it. While you can always stop at a gas station and get some, I would much rather not have to spend month on something I could have brought for free.

I hope these tips help some of you get more water into your body! I can honestly say that as you drink more water, it becomes so natural and you won’t feel like a chore anymore. At first I seriously felt like all I was doing was drinking water and going to the bathroom! But now my body is use to the amount of water I drink and expects it. If I am lacking on my water one day, I get a very specific type of headache and I know to get some fluids in me! It’s a really good way to start understanding your body’s needs.

Don’t every be afraid to start with baby steps! If you barely drink any water now, start with one water bottle a day and work your way up to your desired amount. Everyone has to start somewhere!
