Green Mountain Reservoir

Adventures

Oh how much I love the mountains! And fishing! I was so happy that we got a chance to head up to the mountains for a quick fishing trip this weekend! It felt like we had a million things to get done and I didn’t know if it was going to happen but thankfully it did!

Typically we are up at the crack of dawn and throwing the kids in the car (in their pajamas still) to be able to get up to the mountains at a reasonable time. This time we slept in since we were only going to Green Mountain Reservoir. Everyone must have had the same idea as us because traffic was pretty heavy getting up the mountain. It also doesn’t help that the colors just started changing and everyone wanted to see them.

But we made it and that’s all that matters!

Green Mountain Reservoir is in between Silverthorne and Kremmling. I believe this is the first lake that Justin and I ever fished at together!

It is a pretty decent size lake! In the summer time there are typically a lot of boats and campers around. In the fall though, the water is way down and there aren’t as many people around. You can see how the water is down a bit in the photo.

Green Mountain is a fun little fishing spot! The only draw back is that the highway is so close you can hear the cars going by, but it’s not too bad.

The kids really liked this spot! Since the water was so far down, it gave them a lot of room to run and play. They dug in the dirt, played in the mud, and then towards the end they even got in the water. My kids do not care if the water is freezing cold or not! If we go to a lake, they will do everything they can to get in the water. This includes my daughter telling me she “slipped” in the water so now it’s okay if she swims!

Whatever makes them happy!

We don’t let them stay in the water too long since the water is so cold. I always try to bring an extra pair of clothes, towels, swimsuits, and blankets when we go anywhere just in case!!

After we fished for a bit and let the kids splash around, we went to go look at some fall colors! I did not even realize that leaves had already started to change. No matter where you go in the mountains, fall colors are always beautiful!

This is the river right down the road from Green Mountain.

The only bad thing about seeing the colors change is the traffic! Traffic on I-70 is always terrible on the weekends, but when everyone comes up to see the colors change, it’s a whole different level of terrible! We didn’t even get home until 9pm! Just make sure if you come up for the fall colors, you’re ready to deal with traffic!

Traffic in Colorado is very frustrating, but you really can’t complain when you get to see these views!! (And your husband drives!!)
