How To Use a High Frequency Machine

Mindset

High frequency

I absolutely love skincare and beauty tools! I find quite a lot of new skincare products and devices through my Instagram and Pinterest. One night when I was aimlessly scrolling through Instagram, I stumbled upon a a high frequency machine. I found the device very intriguing and a little intimidating as well! I also felt like this device was going to be way out of my price range but when I looked it up on Amazon, I was shocked at how affordable it was and I was immediately sold!

Flash forward two days and I had this baby in my hands! I didn’t know much about it other than the short clip I watched on Instagram. I plugged in the machine and turned it on. The glass attachments turned orange and made a zapping noise. It freaked me out and I put it back in the box. I told myself I would figure out how to use it later!

About two months later I decided to watch some videos and figure this thing out! Once I watched a video, I realized it really isn’t that hard to use and it really helped with my acne. Also, I fell in love with the hair attachment! It seriously feels like a scalp massage!

I want to share with you exactly what this device is and how to use it!

What Is a High Frequency Facial

When I was doing research on this high frequency machine, I found that this is a procedure offered at spas and it is typically done with devices quite similar or exactly like this one I got off Amazon! I also found that this device is totally safe to use at home, but it’s always a good idea to check with your doctor or dermatologist.

So how does this thing work? When the device is turned on, gas fills the glass attachment and creates a mild electric current when touched to the skin. This shoots a spray of oxygen into the skin which creates a warming effect that increases blood circulation and cell renewal. This helps boost collagen and elastin.

How Does This Help Your Skin?

There are so many benefits to using a high frequency machine regularly. Here are some of the ways it can help your skin:

High frequency machine

Acne

This is the biggest change I have seen with using the high frequency machine. If you struggle with acne, I would highly recommend this. When I use this on my acne, I can see a difference when I wake up in the morning. It’s as if the machine dries out my acne without actually drying out my skin.

Skin Coloration

Because I have such fair skin, acne scars seems to linger and stick around for a while. When I use the high frequency machine consistently, I notice that my complexion looks better and I have less red acne marks or scars. I’m not sure if this happens because my acne is clearing up in general, or my products are working better since using this device.

Helps Appearance of Pores

When I mentioned above that the device sprays oxygen, this can actually help clear out blackheads and pores, which makes them appear smaller. And who doesn’t want to combat their blackheads?

Makes Products More Effective

As you use this machine, your face will get cleaner and cleaner as the oxygen penetrates your skin and clears out pores. The clearer your pores are, the more efficiently your beauty products will work, like serums and creams.

Reduce Eye Puffiness

In the set with the high frequency machine, there is an attachment for under eyes. I haven’t used this attachment as much, but others who have see a reduction in eye puffiness and it reduces their black circles. To be honest, this is something I should be using but I just haven’t yet.

Reduces Cellulite

If you read reviews or watch videos on this device, you’ll hear a mention that this device can reduce cellulite. I have not tried this on any other part of my body than my face and scalp so I can not say for sure if this helps or not. But pretty much everyone has cellulite and honestly it’s probably not going to help all that much.

How Does This Help Your Hair?

There is a hair attachment that comes with this device. It looks like a comb and that’s exactly what you do, you comb it through your hair, touching your scalp. Why would you want to do this to your hair? Well, the high frequency machine can actually help your hair grow. When you run it on your scalp, it increases blood circulation which can stimulate hair growth.

In addition to helping your hair grow, it also helps products work better on your scalp as well. I love to do oil treatments on my scalp (read about it here!) and by regularly using the high frequency machine, it makes my oil treatments more effective, much like how skincare is more effective when you use the device on your face.

How To Use It?

Even though this tool can look a bit intimidating, it really is so simple to use. Below are the steps I take when I use it and also a quick little video to give you a visual.

  • Wash face – you can also apply an oil to your face if you want to. I typically do not.
  • Put in whatever attachment you want to start with – be careful when placing attachments in. They are glass and from what I have read, if you break one while it’s in the machine, there isn’t really anything you can do. You would have to buy a whole new machine.
  • Plug in device and turn it on
  • Wait for the glass tube to change color – it should be orange if you purchased this device!
  • Drag the end of the glass attachment across your face in the same way you would do a lymphatic drainage massage – when fist applying the device to your face, you’ll want to start on a low setting. It does feel like a rubber band being snapped across your face. You can increase the settings as you feel comfortable. Also, if you don’t know how to do a lymphatic drainage massage, check out the video below!
  • I go over my face about 7-8 times in each area. I also will do spot treatments on my acne.
  • When you do your hair, you’ll just want to pop your hair attachment on (while the machine is off), and run it through your hair, touching the ends of the comb tooth to your scalp. Once again I’ll go over each area about 7-8 times.

If you are a little bit confused still, don’t worry! I made a quick little video to show you how I use it! Check it out below!

See! Not hard to use at all! I use the high frequency machine about once a week on my face and twice a week on my hair. But, I do use it to spot treat acne if I have some pimples pop up.
