My absolute favorite place to be in the whole world is Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri. If I could only pick one place to visit for the rest of my life, Lake of the Ozarks would be it!
I have been visiting Lake of the Ozarks every summer for about twenty years now. Both my aunts own houses there and some of my favorite and best memories have been made there. My goal in life is for my kids to love it just as much as I do! Considering that Lotus cried last time we had to leave, I don’t think this goal is far fetched!!
For years I thought I would move to the lake but my life pulled me in a different direction. Now my family and I visit every Fourth of July and Labor Day (and occasionally Memorial Day). There are so many things to do at Lake of the Ozarks that there is never a dull moment. There are boats, jet skis, swimming, fishing, tubing, skiing, wakeboarding, paddle boarding, kayaking, restaurants, bars, shops, state parks, caves, cliff jumping, and so much more!
This lake is seriously so much fun and so beautiful! Can you even imagine waking up to this everyday?
Lake of the Ozarks is actually a man made lake that was constructed around the time of the Great Depression. It covers about 54,000 acres, has 646 billion gallons of water, and has about 1,150 miles of shoreline. This is no small lake (like all the Colorado lakes!).
I absolutely love the fact that it is so large. It honestly makes you feel like you are in another world. Time stops and I don’t have a care in the world (except making sure my kids don’t drown)!
My absolute favorite thing to do at Lake of the Ozarks is to sit my ass on this unicorn floatie right off this dock!
Floating on the water is so relaxing and the large floaties make it so much fun! Justin has a big American flag eagle floatie! And this past year I have been seeing multiple people unicorn floaties! This will definitely be purchased for next year! You can never have too many floaties! Some other popular ones I see are flamingos, ducks, and seashells. Unfortunately, this year we lost the keys to my husbands lock box on his truck and couldn’t get the floaties out (regular floaties just aren’t the same).
My kids favorite thing about the lake is the big mat my aunt has. They could seriously play on that thing all day long! Plus, it’s great to set your drink on when you are floating! Adult win!
Lake of the Ozarks hosts some really cool events too. Since we live so far away it’s hard for us to get to most of them. Two of them that draw a large crowd that I would love to go to are Aquapalooza and The Shootout. Aquapalooza is a big concert on the water. Boats from all over the lake gather to hang out and listen to music! The Shootout is a big speed boat race. It happens at Captain Ron’s every year but we typically miss it because it’s always the weekend before Labor Day. Justin has always wanted to see the races though so we are going to try to make it next year!
Regardless of what we do at Lake of the Ozarks, we always have a good time. I already can’t wait for our trip next year!!
If you have never been to Lake of the Ozark, you should really plan a trip!!
