The Best Non-Toxic Hand Soap

Lifestyle

There seems to be a lot of hand washing going on ever since covid hit! People are taking extra precautions to stay healthy (read how to boost your immune system here!), which means soaps have been flying off the shelf! Unfortunately, soap can contain some pretty nasty and unnecessary toxins. Not to mention that buying a new hand soap every time you run out is using a lot of plastic which isn’t good for the environment.

Creating your own soap is not difficult and it’s actually cost effective and helps save the environment a little bit! Today I want to show you how I make my hand soap and how it goes way further than just your hands. This soap can be used for so much!

There are not very many items you need to create this and some are even optional. To make your own hand soap, you will need:

That’s it! I do want to point out a couple things about the ingredients. I linked the Dr. Bonners castile soap on Amazon, however, Amazon is not always the best place to buy it. I prefer to get it from Target. Amazon just seems so hit or miss with it and I can never find the lavender scent that I prefer in the soap. Castile soap can also be purchased at your local grocery store. I also buy the King Soopers brand and like that one just as much!

When it comes to the essential oils, this is entirely up to you and what you want your soap to smell like. Lavender, citrus, and lemon are all good ones to add in. I personally do not add in essential oils because I’m not big on scents in my soaps.

How To Create Your Own Hand Soap

Creating the soap is seriously as simple as the ingredients! Here’s how:

  1. Fill soap dispenser up about half way full of castile soap
  2. Fill the rest of the dispenser up with water
  3. Add whatever essential oils you prefer (about 5-10 drops)
  4. Enjoy!

See, super simple! One container of castile soap will make so many bottles of hand soap. Plus, you’d be surprised what this soap can replace in your home. Things I use this soap for are:

  • Hand soap
  • Dish soap
  • Cleaning make up brushes
  • Cleaning menstrual cups
  • Clean my hair brush
  • Dog shampoo
  • Cleaning agent

I also created a short video to show you how I make this soap! Watch it below!
