The Kiddo’s First Camping Trip

Adventures

It has taken us a while, but we finally took the kids on their first camping trip and let me tell you….it was a disaster!! At least some of it!!

I have wanted to take the kids camping for the longest time but it just never happened until now. I have also been terrified they wouldn’t enjoy camping but that wasn’t the case at all!!

We packed the car up and left early for the mountains. Justin had picked up a cheap little tent (since our old tent got destroyed at Lake McConaughy) and we were off!! We planned to camp at Taylor Reservoir, but the road was closed so we had to turn around. At least we got to see this gorgeous view!

We headed to Gunnison and we made it just in time for the rain!

But it quickly passed and we headed up to the state land in Gunnison to set up camp!

And we couldn’t have asked for a better view!

We headed down to Blue Mesa Reservoir to fish and let the kids splash around! We took the four wheel roads around to a quiet cove. Justin loves to use any excuse to take a four wheel path!

The kids and dogs had so much fun swimming and splashing around in the freezing cold water! (Note to self: bring beach towels next time!) While the kids splashed around, Justin caught two fish that Jasmison tried to eat!

We headed back up to our campsite where we had campfire hot dogs and Lotus explored!

We had to wrap it up fairly early because Jeffery got fairly fussy (no naps)!

A couple hours after we fell asleep, it started raining. Remember that tent Justin grabbed for this trip? Well, it wasn’t waterproof. Water seeped in everywhere and we were all getting soaked. We tried to wait it out to see if we could get the water out, but the rain was not letting up. So around 1 AM we finally decided to pack it up (in the dark and rain) and head home.

I’m sad the kids couldn’t have the total camping experience but they totally loved it and we will try again very soon!
