Mashed Potato Ingredients

One of my biggest missions is to find healthy easy non-toxic swaps that I can make to clean up my eating. I’ve shared my non-toxic refried beans recipe (check it out here!) and now I want to share my easy mashed potatoes recipe!

Instant potatoes are super easy to make. All you have to do is boil water and whip a couple ingredients together. But, the instant potatoes come with toxic ingredients such as:

  • Food additives
  • Artificial flavorings
  • Soybean oil (GMO)
  • Butylated hydroxyanisole (BHA)
  • Butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT)

Most of these toxic ingredients are additives that allow the instant potatoes to sit on the shelf for as long as they do. Now, I will say that making your own mashed potatoes is not as simple as boiling water, but they can be incredibly easy to make, especially if you have an Instant Pot! If you don’t have an Instant Pot, you can still make these on the stove just as easily.

The thing I love about using the Instant Pot is that I can dump the potatoes and move onto something else without having to worry about them boiling over on the stove.

Making Your Own Mashed Potatoes

Making your own mashed potatoes is so simple! All it takes is four ingredients to make basic potatoes but you can always dress them up anyway you want! Occassionally I add other foods such as:

  • Cheese
  • Bacon
  • Seasonings
  • Chives

I like to use the Instant Pot because like I said before, you can dump the potatoes in the Instant Pot and get something else done. Normally I will set them up to cook and then continue to make whatever else I am making for dinner. It helps be feel less frantic in the kitchen!
